M-1 and UFC: MMA Pound for pound Alliance?
By: Sifu Joomla

News on the UFC and Holland based martial arts promotion M-1 Global, opening talks on a possible mega-fight event has recently resurfaced. The much anticipated face-off between World Number 1 MMA pound-for-pound fighter Fedor Emelelianenko against UFC's heavyweight champion superstar wrestler Brock Lesnar and the battle of the most equipped technical styled fighters Gegard Mousasi Vs Lyoto Machida will hopefully have the green light. This event will generate Mixed-martial-arts biggest PPV and ticket revenue. M-1 made name for organizing the renowned "World Cup of MMA" M-1 Challenge, a five man team tournament participated by the worlds best fighters representing their country. UFC on the other hand, has all the best signed fighters under their flag. Dana White, Ultimate fighting Championship president is positive in making this mega-fight happen. Nothing can stop the man until the world's top elite fighters battle inside his octagon. One positive endeavor from White with a big hefty payday.

Mega-fights and big pay-per-views. Gegard Mousasi one of M-1 Global's priced fighter, is the current Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion. Moussasi is a big MMA crowd drawer, he had a very stunning 2009 career after defending his title against ace Judoka Soukudjou and by displaying his top game in Japan's Dynamite event. Moussasi's kickboxing and slick submission will have to deal UFC's karate master Lyoto "the dragon" Machida. Machida's last fight was a controversy. A fight many thought his opponent fellow Brazilian Mauricio Shogun Rua should have won. His last fight maybe a controversy, but once this master of elusive deception enters the octagon an MMA fan will surely have a very technical fight to watch. The bigger the fighter, the bigger the pay.
M-1 Global part owner - World Alliance Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) Undisputed Heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will have the chance to display greatness by putting a beating on UFC's Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar has the strength to nullify technique, he also has the chance to shock the world once he pulls an upset. Emelianenko named number 1 fighter of the decade by Sports Illustrated versus a former WWE superstar will be the biggest money-maker both M-1 and UFC organizations don't want to miss.

Although Emelianenko and Moussasi are signed with M-1 Global's U.S partner - Strikeforce. "It's not that I don't want to talk to M-1. I want to get this done. I want Moussasi, and I want Fedor. I want to do it. And I never say never. They can call me right now, and we can start talking and figure this thing out. I'd love to get Mousasi in here. He should be. He deserves to be." White stated. After Mousasi's interviews saying that he will never be a UFC fighter. The big event will only happen if both promotions agree and when conditions are met. Including M-1 Global co-promoting Fedor Emelianenko's UFC fights.

Marijuana, the other "M" in MMA?

Marijuana, the other "M" in MMA?
By: Sifu Joomla

NO. MMA stands for Mixed-martial-arts and marijuana has no place in this sport. How in the world did toking joints came to the picture? I can’t blame any fighter who smokes weed for positive recreation and relaxation. Unlike alcohol and those drugs made in laboratories, weed doesn't make the toker act like stupid maniacs on crack but instead have a positive smiling attitude. Stoned fighters don't get advantage over an opponent but steroids and other illegal performance enhancing drugs do. MMA fighters on painful chronic illness like migraine use marijuana for pain control and relaxation. Fighters on medical marijuana medication trains without having problems and still put up a good show. MMA marijuana users are being stripped of their wins while steroid stuffed fighters are getting away. Weed is not a performance enhancing drug. In California MMA fighters caught positive in marijuana use faces a three to six-month suspension and $500-$1,000 fine. The fine will never hurt a prize fighter's purse and they can spend the suspension time in training until the next fight comes. In Nevada, drug-related suspensions are treated on a case-to-case basis, fines a six-month suspension and escalates for repeat offenders.
"I’m a fighter. I fight back. I’ll speak out as much as I want on the issue. I believe in fighting for my rights." Nick Diaz said.
One of the most vocal on his pro weed stance is Strikeforce's Nick Diaz. Diaz a Stockton, California native was the first WEC Welterweight champion. He will be fighting on January 31st 2010 for a chance to steal the Strikeforce Welterweight title against dangerous striker DREAM 2009 World Grand Prix Champion Marius Zaromskis. Diaz was scheduled to fight on the August 15th, 2009 "Gina Carano Vs Cris Cyborg Fight" but was cancelled from the card when he failed to show-up in his pre-fight drug test. In Japan Diaz got stripped of his win when he fought Takanori Gomi in Pride 33 160 pound catch-weight battle, which he won by a stunning gogoplata submission. The win was overturned after results show positive presence on levels of THC - Marijuana compound found in a marijuana user's system. Diaz is an excellent boxer, he made name for knocking out Legendary Frank Shamrock. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black belt under Cesar Gracie. Cesar Gracie himself is no stranger to this marijuana on MMA related issues. March 2006, Gracie was tested positive for Delta 9 THC and was suspended for three months. A very respected Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor, Cesar is a 3rd generation Gracie produced superb submission black belts with the likes of Strikeforce Middleweight champion Jake Shields, David Terrel, and the other herb user Nick's brother Nate Diaz.

December 13, 2006 Ultimate Fighter winner Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez - a very fit and excellent conditioned athlete, was suspended for 3 months when tested positive for Delta 9 THC.

Coming from a successful wins Both Diaz brothers are put to test again, skills will be watch and scrutinized. They have to face their battles inside the octagon and the personal attack to their freedom outside.

2009 UFC Year of Controversy and scandals. The Ultimate Fighting disputes..

Free UFC MMA PPV TV
2009 UFC Year of Controversy
By: Sifu Joomla

2009 gave MMA fans the best cards there is despite of the numerous fighter injuries and contract problems. A lot of fights were cancelled, but were replaced with a better card. New upcoming fighters making their way and showing their worth. As the mixed-martial-arts sport evolved, fighters grew along with it. Fighters becoming more and more dangerous in their striking skills and on the rubber guard as well. The race on who’s got the best techniques and combo's in reinventing a one dimensional fighter is huge.

Fight Academies and training camps are on a scientific approach in studying different style combinations, then they apply the best combos that suits a given fighter on a predetermined opponent. They tend to mix styles to counter an opponent's strikes. Every fighter's aim now is to finish fights. They can't have the fight to go to the hands of the judges. Fighters train hard to end the fight or else they'll suffer the sad truth on MMA. BAD judging and the so called "Gift decisions" for organization favorites.

MMA is still a growing sport that suffers from its mistakes. In the Ultimate Fighting Championships or better known as UFC these controversies are common. One example. Whenever a fighter is being groomed for a next big event and you'll fight him now, you already lost. Even if you dismantle the opponent in all rounds and it went to a decision. They will not give the loss to the favorite. This year UFC happens to collect their share of controversies, in their biggest events with their biggest names.
Machida ate Shogun’s overhand punch.

One unforgettable controversy was during the October 24, 2009 UFC 104 title defense of current Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto "the Dragon" Machida against the former Pride champion Muay Thai striker Mauricio "shogun" Rua. Machida is a world class karate black belt known for his elusiveness and powerful counter-striking.

Machida's no loss record makes him an impossible opponent to dissect. Machida is very good on imposing his will against an opponent, with the opponent thinking that he is the one dictating the fight. A very killer deception. When Machida and Rua face and squared it off on the octagon, it was different. The one thought to be unstoppable is being owned.

Rua had properly studied Machida's timing and did not fell into his traps. Hitting Machida with his Muay thai strikes. The fight went five rounds with Machida unable to answer. Rua landed the most strikes, but when the judges’ decision came. Rua Lost.
Vera hits Couture with a vicious kick.

Another controversy was the November 14, 2009 UFC 105 Randy Couture Vs Brandon "the Truth" Vera. Couture, a UFC Hall of fame MMA fighter who held UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight championship belts is returning to LHW division. Looking at Couture's UFC record, he can easily get championship fights in the UFC. He was one of the so called "UFC marketing made champions" with the likes of Forrest Griffin. During the fight all Couture could do is push Vera to the fence.

Vera landed very clear damaging leg kicks all three rounds. Couture is a Greco Roman wrestler, but Brandon came out stronger. Brandon easily shoves and pushes Couture away during the clinch. Couture pushed Vera to the fence all night in DEFENSIVE MODE so Brandon can't strike him. Couture made sure Brandon can’t strike him, but ended Couture of not having ANY strikes. He just kept on holding Vera, until even the referee got bored for non-action and had them restarted. Vera's strength was impressive. He can easily escape Couture's clinch, and punish Couture on the way out. Then came the decision. Vera lost.

These are the sad truth MMA fighters have to face. Even if they kill themselves training, once they put themselves in a very bad position. It's over. UFC favoritism is not a fiction but a fact. Dana White doesn't like Roy Nelson to win TUF 10 and he's vocal about it. Kimbo Slice can't fight Mixed-martial-arts, but he is giving UFC quite a revenue. A Dana White favorite Kimbo even has he's own weight class. Whoever wants to fight him have to go to a catch weight.

I say it again, MMA is still a growing sport. The sad thing is, the sport is getting corrupted. But it learns from its mistakes. Boxing went down before when money took over, MMA hopefully won't be next.

Aoki's MMA Pound-for-pound Rude Awakening

Aoki's MMA Pound-for-pound Rude Awakening
By: Sifu Joomla

Dream Lightweight Champion Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki shocked the world when he broke Sengoku Lightweight Champion Mizuto Hirota's arm on purpose then made the dirty finger on Hirota's face and ran around the ring giving the whole of Japan a new year's nasty welcoming. Aoki's very disturbing un-sportsman conduct after the fight overshadowed his superior grappling skills. Aoki the WAMMA undisputed lightweight champion showed sick Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills by submitting Hirota via reverse kimura (arm lock) with both legs on an almost like body triangle controlling Hirota's posture and putting more pressure on the locks.

This Lightweight megafight between DREAM and Senguko champions was one of the highlights on the New Year MMA pound for pound Fields Dynamite K-1 event. A very anticipated lightweight battle that had both fighters on a heated exchange of words, giving more spice and excitement. Senguko's Hirota is a powerful technical striker who posses a one punch knockout power and utilizes his legs and knees as a dangerous weapon. Aoki wasted no time in taking the fight to the ground. He did not give Hirota any chance to throw those vicious strikes. Aoki immediately shoot for a single leg takedown and got successful when they hit the ropes. Pulled Hirota's body down and established full mount position in seconds. Aoki controlled Hirota's right arm by holding the hands at the back of his body giving Aoki the free ticket. Aoki's control gave him open shots on Hirotas head. Aoki pulled Hirota's arm and continued on twisting even after hearing the bones snapped. Hirota did not tap even when he still had the chance, prompting Aoki to continue on his submission. Hirota's MMA lvl of fighting is no match to Aokis' Jiu jitsu. Aoki has already fought big grappling competitions and faced the likes of WAMMA Undisputed Heavyweight pound-for-pound Fedor Emelianenko.
The Aoki middle finger incident and new year's bone breaking treat received a lot of mixed reactions. Aoki went over the line when he broke Hirota's arms even when he heard the first bones snapped. The MMA community is asking the organizations to look into this. Aoki fought on emotions, and it is very very dangerous for an MMA fighter to get emotional. He might loose control and hit the opponent on illegal areas or break some bones on purpose. The very disturbing after fight antics followed when Aoki celebrated by showing the dirty finger to the Japan crowd and pointed his arm showboating the submission win. A rude awakening will come to Shinya Aoki's way when the whole of MMA community and combat sports world rally against his disturbing act of violence inside the ring. I can still recall Aoki calling out BJ Penn and saying he can handle Penn's level of fighting. If that’s the case, give the showboat his fight so he gets to experience the Hawaiian beating. That's awakening.

by: Sifu Joomla

Mixed-Martial-Arts world ended 2009 with its share of controversies, stunning upsets, memorable title defenses, and fighter breakthroughs. All of these fights share one thing in common, Big knockouts. In every great fight card, a dangerous striker's hand always finds a place in an opponents head. Torres easily recovered and moved forward on Bowles. Torres' defense on the ground was excellent even while he was hurt that led him to stand up and strike again. Torres kept the pace by going after Bowles, exposing his defense instead in the process while he was throwing those punches in a very bad position. Bowles had a clear view on Torres exposed head and delivered the knockout shot, jumped on him and finished the business. His kicks began to telegraph giving Smith the advantage to close the distance. It took Smith 3 rounds of patience to smash Cung Le's nose with heavy punches.

8. K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 - Alistair Overeem Vs Ewerton Teixeira

December 5, 2009. Strikeforce former Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem's K-1 world grand prix fight against Brazilian World Karate Champion Ewerton Teixeira. All of the K-1 fighters are eyeing for Overeem after he made some remarks belittling K-1 level of fighting against MMA fighters. Teixeira was up for the challenge on knocking Overeem out when they met in the quarterfinal round, but the former Strikeforce champion was just too quick and powerful for him. Overeem got a tight Muay Thai clinch on Teixeira's neck very early in round one and hit him with devastating knees to the head. Sending the Brazilian down.

Silva already moonlighted the 205 division by beating James "the Sandman" Irving in a 1st round TKO. Silva is the reigning #1 pound-for-pound fighter. Griffin thinks he can face Silva's speed and technical fighting. Middleweight class was cold for contenders and Silva was out of fight, "the spider" Silva squared off with Griffin in a very one sided OUT CLASSED fight. Silva can predict Griffin's telegraph kicks for a mile. Every time Griffin comes forward, he pays. It’s like watching a big white guy thinking he is the bully, but ended being the "BIG JOKE". Silva danced in front of Griffin's punches, like he was schooling him out. Griffin felt Silva's power even with those very short punches. Got knocked out with a left hook even while Silva was back pedaling. Forrest Griffin ran out of the Octagon when he regained consciousness in total shame.

March 7, 2009 Brazilian Jiu jitsu Black belt Gabriel Gonzaga on his way back to the top after winning a brutal 1st round knockout over Josh "heavy handed" Hendricks in UFC 91. Shane Carwin also coming from a previous TKO win was the underdog in this fight. Two big grapplers who can throw a heavy punch, one must come down. And Gonzaga suffered the fate. The two big guys traded powerful punches early on. Carwin ate two heavy shots and took an immediate take-down attempt from Gonzaga. The Brazilian got the take-down but wasn't successful on any offense after that. Carwin was able to escape Gonzaga's mount and stood up, pure wrestling power. After the clinch the big guys traded shots and Carwin hit Gonzaga with a crushing right over-the-head punch. The Brazilian was out cold.

January 24, 2009. Vitor "the Phenom" Belfort continues his winning streak in fashion, by brutal knockouts. Faces off with veteran Greco Roman wrestler Matt "the Law" Lindland. He is the faster fighter and has way better boxing skills than Lindland. Both guys on a southpaw stance circling in the direction of the opponent's power shot. Almost threw the same punch at the same time. BANG! Lindland fell and Belfort was all over him. This was the most wicked knockout of 2009. Lindland actually threw the punch first and after like a split second Vitor threw the same, Vitor's was just so fast that it landed first. This former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was made famous for fastest MMA knockouts. Most of his fights end in the first seconds of round 1.

by: Sifu Joomla

December 31st 2009 Japan welcomes the new year with a very powerful card. The Fields Dynamite!! 2009 is an annual K-1 and MMA mega-fight event. The best MMA pound for pound fighters and K-1 strikers meet in Saitama Japan Super Arena for the tournament Grand Prix championships, DREAM versus Sengoku featuring Strikeforce’s Heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, WAMMA Undisputed Lightweight Champion Grappling sensation Shinya Aoki Vs Mizuta Hirota, Light Heavyweight Champion Gerard Mousasi Vs PRIDE/UFC Veteran Gary Goodridge, Koushien Finale, and the much anticipated main event trilogy ending between Japan's 2-time K-1 World Grand Prix Champion Masato on his retirement fight against nemesis Andy Souwer of Netherlands. Souwer also a 2-time world champion defeated Masato by Unanimous decision in 2006 and by a TKO in 2007 Grand Prix Championship battle. Masato aimed for a sweet retirement win over Souwer.

Dynamite event starts 6pm on the 31st until midnight new years eve for the main card, and welcome 2010 with the two best pound-for-pound strikers going toe-to-toe in a big drama behind the face-off K-1 mega-fight. Kicked-off with Koushien Japan under 18 Finale. Shota Shimada and Masaaki Noiri traded powerful strikes in the championship rounds. Shimada lost to Noiri's superior technical striking and relentless attacks via unanimous decision after the three two-minute round K-1 rules Under 18 finale. A preview on Japan's upcoming superstars.
Super Hulk Championships followed with U.S.A Team Quest's Judo ace and sinister ground-and-pound specialist Sokoudjou advancing to the finals after he defeats 2005 Japan GP Champion former NFL/WWE star Bob Sapp in an excellent display of ground control and brutal pounding. Cameroon native Sokoudjou squares-off with Japan's Minowaman. Ikuhisa Minowa is the smallest competitor in the Super Hulk Tournament, advanced to the finals by defeating Korean kickboxing 7'2" giant Seoul GP winner Hong-man Choi. In the finals Minowaman dictated Sokoudjou's fast pace by controling the distance. Sokoudjou dropped Minowaman with a powerful right and almost submitted him with a rear naked choke in the 1st round. Minowa answered a quick bell beating toe lock on the 2nd and finally finished the fight with a speed blinding punch that caught the Cameroon Judo master off-guard. A New Years Knockout celebration followed.

The MMA Dream Vs Sengoku continued on recording knockouts and sick grappling exhibition. Team Sengoku recorded the first three wins including the win over famous UFC veteran multi organization champion Hayato Sakurai. Akihiro Gono displayed top level athleticism and attacked Sakurai with a very slick arm-bar submission. The 3 fight Sengoku winning streak was halted when Melvin Manhoef took the ring and gave Kazuo Misaki a devastating beat-down, prompting the referee for a quick stoppage. Team DREAM continued winning and answered with a 3 fighter win rally. Hidehiko Yoshida welcomes Japan's number one Olympic judo star Satoshi Ishii to MMA world, but backfires with a crushing knee to the balls. Fight was stopped and eventually restarted after replacing Yoshida's cap. OUCH! Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem of Holland on a very out-classed battle versus Japan's Champion wrestler Kazuyuki Fujita. Overeem Knockouts Fujita with a very vicious knee in the first round. Dream Vs Sengoku tournament finishes off with its two Lightweight champions battling for supremacy. Shinya Aoki submitted Hirota with a very nasty reverse arm-lock. Aoki easily drops Hirota to the ground and established control on the hapless Sengoku Lightweight champion. Aoki broke Hirotas shoulder first by pulling off the arm on Hirota's back, with both legs controlling the posture a la body triangle. Aoki continued on the submission breaking Hirota's arm and literally pulled it off his joints. Aoki made a very un-sportsman conduct afterwards, giving Hirota's face the middle finger. Aoki ran off the ring celebrating his sick win.

One of the Highlights before the main event was the meeting of two MMA greats, Gegard Mousasi Vs Gary Goodridge. The fight did not stand the hype. Goodridge was not in shape for a fight and Mousasi beat Goodridge in a one sided battle.

2010 Midnight. Masato faces K-1's toughest striker in his retirement fight. Masato must win over the man who defeated him twice. Andy Souwer battered Masato the whole five-round battle. Masato's edge was only when he knocked-down the out balanced Souwer on a beautiful counter. Andy Souwer still managed to throw his kick on the way down. If judged by most powerful strikes and without the knockdown Souwer could have stolen the celebration. One Big party for Japan and an applause on Masato's sweetest retirement win.
